Chinese New Year (part 5)


Delicious!It was New Year's Eve.Around 7pm,we drove to Raffles Country Club for my maternal new year reunion dinner.We reached there at 8pm,1 hour journey,as it was located at Jurong West.Upon entering the restaurant,I greeted my relatives.The restaurant was well decorated with new year ornaments.Everyone were on cloud nine as we chatted for awhile while waiting for the food to be served.My other smaller cousins were engrosed in their gaming gadgets.Soon,the dishes were served.We start with the "Yu Sheng",chinese raw fish salad.It usually consists of strips of raw fish (most commonly salmon), mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients.Yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor.We were all smiles as the food tasted very good.There were a total of 12 dishes served and everyone were very full after the meal.My uncles then sang a few chinese songs using the karaoke player in the room.Everyone partied together to count down for the new year.After quite a long wait,it was down to the last few seconds:10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1!Happy New Year!Everyone exchanged wishes with one another.We then headed back home since it was very late.A new year,new begining.I hope that everyone would have a fruitful and fun 2010!

Something unusual (Part 4)


When the word playground comes into your head, most people would say that it is childish and they would think that it is an abandon place that is badly vandalized especially when it is at a remote area. Most of the time, children would hardly be found at the playground and even if children are found playing at the playground, only one or two of them would be seen playing alone, as the environment provided is usually destroyed by teenagers burning the plastic, writing nonsensical comments on the slides or even using spray paints to draw on the stairs which make a lousy place for children to be in. Parents would also not allow their children to play at the playground if the conditions are that poor as they are afraid that their children would learn the wrong thing and think that it is cool to vandalize, thus causing the population of children playing at the playground to be diminishing. However, the definition of play ground is a place for recreation and for people to enjoy and play. It would be shocking for us when we see over 20 children roaming around the play ground and enjoying the facilities provided. I was appalled too when I saw so many children at the playground, happily running about with their faces grinning from ear to ear. What an unusual and remarkable sight.I was back from school after my hockey training . On the way back home when I was in my father’s car, my father told me that the playground which was under construction previously was finally open. I had no reaction and thought that there would not be any children found playing there and that it would soon be vandalized. When we reached home, my father brought me to the nearby playground he mentioned. I was wrong and did not believe what I saw. I wipe my weary eyes to make sure that it was true. My jaws dropped and my eyes widened. It was an unbelievable sight. The playground is brand new and most importantly, I saw a bunch of over 20 children playing. I have never met those children before when I went there to have a jog previously. I cannot wait to join them and try those facilities.This is one unusual sight found at the playground and it is not possible for everyone who saw it to forget. Since then, I am seeing so many children crowding together every evening especially during the weekend.

Rainbow! (Part 3)


What is a rainbow?A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere. They take the form of a multicoloured arc, with red on the outer part of the arch and violet on the inner section of the arch.A rainbow spans a continuous spectrum of colours.The most commonly cited and remembered sequence, in English, is Newton's sevenfold red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet . Rainbows can be caused by other forms of water than rain, including mist, spray, and dew.It was the weekends as we decided to go to Bukit Timah Hill for a hike.After taking a light breakfast,we drove to the Bukit Timah Hill and after 20 minutes,we arrived in the carpark of the place.We alighted as soon as my father parked his car.Soon we were on our way,up to the peak of the hill.The morning sun was shining bright as we slowly walked up the rocky granite path of the hill.Admiring the beautiful trees and vast species of insects,I breathed in a huge breath of fresh refreshing air.It was certainly a place for nature lovers.Soon,we reached the peak of the hill at 164m.Suddenly,the sky started to darken and heavy rain poured.Everyone ran helter-skelter for the nearest shelter,some unlucky ones were drenched from head to toe as they could not find a shelter in time.Luckily,there were a few shelter nearby and we managed to get into it before it started to pour.The rain lasted for quite awhile.When it stopped,a rainbow formed,bringing joy to everyone in the Nature Reserve,especially to the small children who were jubilant after seeing the phenomenon rainbow appearing infront of them.Upon seeing it,I whiped out my camera from my bag and took some photos of this spectacular scene.We then went back home after the rainbow disappeared.What an unusual phenomenon!I hope to see more rainbows in the future!

An unlucky day! (Part 2)


Every time when lessons are over, I would have my lunch at my school canteen and afterward, I would take the public transport home, which is know as SBS Bus- Singapore Bus Service. The bus I take is bus number 55. Sometimes, I would have my friends who also take bus 55 to accompany me, so that I would not get bored and fall asleep. However sometimes, mistakes would happen during the bus ride and it would cause me to have a great problem getting home. Other then having miss the bus or having insufficient money for the bus fare, there is this mistake that might happened on most people. I was also one of them who made this accidental mistake once and I had a hard time getting back home.On a fine windy afternoon, I stood at the bus stop and was waiting for bus 55 to come. Unfortunately after 20mins, the bus has not arrived. After some time when I was soon about to doze off, the bus finally arrived. I realized that the bus has been changed to the newer model and I was over the moon as I thought it would be much comfortable and the journey would be much smoother than the older model of the bus.When I got up the bus, there was a heavy odour of the new leather. I sat on one of the seat. The bus ride is about 45minutes. When the bus is halfway through, I started to get sick of the odour and I got dizzy. I was also exhausted and was soon tired of boredom. After a few minutes, I went to have a short nap and thought that it would be alright. My head was nodding in a repeated action as I went into my dreamland. It was so comfortable and cozy in the cooling bus. When I was awake, I was in a state of confusion. I didn’t know where I was. I soon realized that I have overshot my bus stop as I did not recognize the place I am at. I immediately came down from the bus and tried to walk back home. Fortunately, I recalled the place that I am at and knew the direction to walk back home. It is already 4 in the afternoon and I am still not at home. I contacted my mother and told her that I would be walking home by myself.The walk back home is about a kilometer or two. I was perspiring from the heat given out by the ongoing vehicles. After about an estimated time of 30 minutes, I soon arrived at the junction just outside my house. I went for a 200 meter walk and i finally reached the door of my house. I heave a sigh of relief then, I gave a few knocks on the door and I went in.

A Day At East Coast Park (Part 1 GRADE)


With a total land size of 185-hectares, and a scenic coastline that stretches over 15 km, East Coast Park is one of Singapore's most treasured urban getaways.The park is a popular place for families and friends to relax and enjoy themselves. The park has barbecue pits, entertainment facilities, chalets, food and beverage, and amenities for sports activities.It was the usual Saturday afternoon.After finishing my school's homework,I headed to East Coast Park for a run.It took me less then 5 minutes to walk there as there were underpasses linking the park to the nearby Marine Parade housing estate.After reaching the park,I did some warm up exercises before heading for the tracks.Soon,off I go,with my mind fully concentrated to beat the timing I set last week.Although it was very strenuous to keep the speed momentum going,I persevered to the end and to my delight,I managed to beat my previous timing by 3 seconds.I was dog-tired.But occasionally,I would fail to meet my expectations due to the different conditions my body had on that particular Saturday.After the run,I found a bench and sat on it.Eyes closed and relaxed,the perennial sea breeze provide me with an invigorating relief to the stifling city heat and humidity.Groups of children could be seen building castles with the sand while others were having a family picnic.Some of the daring teenagers even swam in the sea when it was high tide,not knowing that they were taking a risk that might lead to death.Soon,the night dawned and I headed back home.East Coast Park has always been a place that I would go to when I am under stress or feeling emotionally down as its beautiful scenery and lush greenery makes me feel relaxed.I hope that people would treasure this wonderful park by keeping it clean and green for everyone to enjoy.
